SAN ANTONIO, March 08, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Rackspace Technology® (NASDAQ: RXT), a leading end-to-end multicloud technology solutions company, today announced its collaboration with Delta Thermal to protect and expand the power grid enabled by Delta Thermal to help electric utilities and downstream industrial customers predict and prevent costly failures, save millions of dollars and generate a 20x return on investment.
Based in Tucson, AZ, Delta Thermal provides utility and mining customers with a hardware and software solution that continuously monitors equipment temperatures to prevent failures and downtime. Delta Thermal’s ThermalSafe software is used by electric utilities that generate, transmit and distribute electricity for sale to customers. This automated monitoring solution is used by a wide range of energy providers, including federal energy programs, cooperatives, industrial electricity customers, electric utilities, independent power producers and utilities. investor-owned utilities.
Since the company was founded in 2017, Delta Thermal has followed a traditional server-oriented computing model, but as the company grew rapidly, the company realized it needed to the ability to evolve. After careful consideration, Delta Thermal chose Onica from Rackspace Technology and Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its market position, the cost savings it could provide, and its ability to scale to support its business growth.
“The cost savings are significant, but the big advantage is the competitive advantage. The fact that I have no servers anywhere means that my customers will never pay for more resources than they use,” said Andy Griffis, CEO of Delta Thermal, Inc. “We chose Rackspace Technology because its capacity for unlimited development, the fact that it allows us to make maximum use of human capital, where it is available, and its significant return on capital.
Rackspace Technology worked with Delta Thermal to provide prototypes of two sensing solutions. The project was to be completed in a short four week timeframe and required the creation of two algorithms – one for sensors that detect temperature anomalies and one for sensors used to forecast and predict failures.
“We worked with Delta Thermal to design a solution where metrics were stored on AWS DynamoDB,” said Jeff DeVerter, Chief Technology Evangelist at Rackspace Technology. “Using the Python script on Amazon SageMaker, the data was then analyzed and transformed for use in both anomaly detection and time series forecasting. The solution also used machine learning domains that included existing off-the-shelf, AWS-powered ML workflows for detecting anomalies and predicting temperatures.
In one instance, a customer was able to detect a problem and dispatch a maintenance crew within 40 minutes of installing Delta Thermal’s ThermalSafe software. In another case, a Delta Thermal customer was able to find an anomaly and repair it about six months before it caused a catastrophic failure, saving several hundred thousand dollars in potential repair costs.
