BBB National Programs Announces 85 Distinguished Panel Pool Members for the National Advertising Review Board and New Vice Chair

MCLEAN, Virginia, January 11, 2022 / PRNewswire / – BBB National Programs today announced the 85 panel members for the National Advertising Review Board 2022. The appeal body of the US Advertising Industry Self-Regulatory System also announced its vice-president 2022, Heather hippsley, who retired in 2020 as Deputy General Counsel of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) where, among many senior positions for over 35 years, she served as deputy director of the advertising practices division.

Members of the National Advertising Review Board panel, selected for their stature and experience in their fields, provide independent peer review to ensure the truthfulness and accuracy of national advertising and help promote voluntary compliance with its decisions. . The role of the vice-president is to support the president of the National Advertising Review Board, the legal advisor to appeal boards and, in the absence of the president, to exercise this advisory responsibility on behalf of the president.

Ken plevan, who returns for his fourth year as Chairman of the National Advertising Review Board, said, “As NARB enters its sixth decade, the work we do to promote and maintain truth in advertising is more important than ever. I look forward to serving again with our talented panel members and welcoming Heather hippsley like our vice president. “

Founded in 1971, the National Advertising Review Board provides an appellate review of decisions of the National BBB National Programs Advertising Division and the Children’s Advertising Review Unit. These programs are three of more than a dozen self-regulatory, accountability, and dispute resolution programs from the independent nonprofit BBB National Programs. In over 90% of case decisions, companies voluntarily comply with case recommendations. If there is no good faith effort to modify or discontinue advertising as a result of a decision, cases are referred to the appropriate regulatory body.

For 2022, panel members include 85 Distinguished Leaders from three different categories:

  • National advertisers
  • Advertising agencies
  • Public members (academics and other members of the public sector)

A National Advertising Review Board appeal committee typically consists of five panel members, with three national advertising representatives, one agency representative, and one public sector representative on each committee.

Nominations for panel members for the National Advertising Review Board are made by the Association of National Advertisers, the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the American Advertising Federation and the BBB National Programs. The initial term is two years, and each member is eligible for reappointment for two additional two-year terms. This year, 20 new members join 65 who return to their distinguished roles.

“Members of our National Advertising Review Board 2022 Expert Panel bring incredible diversity and experience to their role of helping resolve disputes over truth in advertising and building consumer confidence.” , said Eric D. Reicin, President and CEO, National BBB Programs. “I am honored to welcome the new members to our panel pool and thank them for the work they will do this year to ensure the success of self-regulation in the independent advertising industry.
