Seahawk cornerback Richard Sherman said Wednesday he was shocked to learn his girlfriend’s body was found in her Seattle apartment early Sunday morning.
Sherman told reporters at a news conference that he and his girlfriend, Jessica Shaw, had a relationship and were in the process of divorcing.
He said Shaw had been pregnant with their first child.
He said she had called him at 10:35 a.m. on Sunday to tell him she was pregnant and would be leaving on Monday morning.
Sherman said he didn’t think Shaw had any more plans for the week.
“I don’t think I really knew where she was going to be going,” Sherman said.
“I just knew she had a boyfriend.”
Shaw’s mother told the Seattle Times that Shaw and her boyfriend had recently had an argument and were arguing about the baby.
“He came over and told me she was leaving.
I told him, ‘What?
I don’t even want to talk to you about this,’ ” Shaw’s mother, Jessica Lee, told the paper.
Shaw was a standout high school football player in her home state of California and a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona.
She was drafted by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft, but was cut in the third round by the Dallas Cowboys.
She also attended college at the University of Utah and later played in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints.
