LAS VEGAS, Nev.
(AP) Las Vegas Police are investigating possible Las Angeles shootings and are seeking the public’s help in identifying the gunman.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Chief Mark Beckerman says officers responded to the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival at about 4 p.m.
ET on Saturday and were told there was an active shooter situation.
Beckerman says the investigation is focused on identifying the shooter, who is white.
Police say he is believed to be armed with a weapon.
They say he was wearing an all-black mask and was armed with an assault rifle.
They also said he was in the middle of the festival area when he opened fire.
They say he ran into the crowd, opened fire and then fled the scene.
Police say a SWAT team went to the festival, located a man in a car and then searched the vehicle.
Beckerman said officers found no weapons.
He says there are no active shooter situations in Las Vegas.
The Associated Press is not naming the shooter because he was on the loose and not under arrest.
Las Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti says the city is mourning the loss of the lives of the victims and their families.
He said the city has been working closely with law enforcement agencies across the country to locate the suspect.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says the officer was a police officer and is on paid administrative leave.
Beckman says Las Vegas is still dealing with the loss and damage caused by the mass shooting, and he urged the public to remain vigilant.
