A man who died in a shooting Monday in North Carolina has been identified as a police officer.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jason Smith confirmed the identity of the officer who died as 34-year-old Robert L. Jones of St. Paul, according to the Associated Press.
Jones had served as a patrol officer with the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, the St Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
He was assigned to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the department said in a statement.
The AP did not say where Jones was from or what he did.
He joined the department in September 2016, and the AP identified him as a former deputy chief with the department.
